The African and African American Studies Program is pleased to announce the Spring Semester 2022 Academic Scholarships. The African and African American Studies Program remains committed to advancing the interests of students at the University of the Arkansas while recognizing the academically talented majors of our program.

“AAST is committed to providing relevant education that prepares students for graduate and vocational schools or the job market through our curated academic programming to immerse students in a critical study of the complexity of human experience as well. that through the particular set of skills that we train and cultivate in the discipline, “said Caree Banton, program director.” These skills, including critical thinking, interdisciplinary analysis and global cultural competence which are the central point of employers and higher and vocational schools form the heart of what we do. “

To this end, in the process of providing a relevant and rigorous education designed for the real world, the program remains committed to supporting student funding to help today’s academics in this competitive landscape by helping defray the associated costs. to university attendance. To be eligible for African and African American scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours)
  • Be registered as a major in African and African American studies
  • Have completed or be currently enrolled in at least 3 credit hours of AAST courses
  • Have at least 2.5 GPA

This one-time reward can be up to $ 5,000. Preference will be given to students with existing minors and / or credit hours in AAST.
