She is currently Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Central Missouri. She will join Missouri Southern on February 15, 2022.
“I am honored to join a university that offers students from all walks of life the opportunity to better their lives through higher education,” said Toms. “Missouri Southern’s mission is one that aligns with my desire to invest in students.”
Toms was introduced at the Board of Governors meeting held on Friday, January 14, where a new curriculum was also approved.
New MSSU degree
The College of Business and the Department of Kinesiology will offer an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree program in Sport and Recreation Management, pending HLC approval.
The new degree has been offered in response to the increased interest and job opportunities available in the leisure and sports industry.
“We are excited about this new program,” said Dr. Jeffrey Zimmerman, dean of the College of Business. “It was designed from the ground up with the employability of our students in mind.”
The Bachelor of Science in Sport and Recreation Management will fit into the 120 credit hour model and includes a 41 hour Sport and Recreation Management core developed to provide students with employment-related skills in athletic, recreation and recreation service agencies.
