PSHS math teacher named 2022 Wood County Schools teacher of the year
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – A math teacher at Parkersburg South High School has been named 2022 Wood County Schools Teacher of the Year.
Her name is Sara Klesel and she has been teaching in the South for 10 years.
Klesel was recognized at the Wood County School Board meeting on Tuesday night. A spokesperson for the school board read aloud his application, which had been submitted by a parent of one of his current students. He said in part, “I’m lucky that I can be home with my kids to help them out if they need anything, so I see what’s going on in my children’s classes. I can say with certainty that Ms. Klesel goes above and beyond. She would be a great choice for Teacher of the Year.
Over 300 people were originally nominated for Teacher of the Year. Klesel said she was honored to win after a difficult year.
“So many teachers, I’ve seen them go beyond this year. With all the changes, learning new skills, learning new ways to engage their students, it’s just been a year. So, to end this way, in a year where we have been taken to the extreme. It’s just very special, ”Klesel said.
Superintendent Will Hosaflook said as part of his award, Klesel would receive $ 500 from his office to purchase classroom supplies.
Klesel will now represent Wood County in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
