Santos named CoSIDA Academic All-American®
NORMAL, sick. – Illinois State Women’s Football Student-Athlete Ashley santos has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® women’s soccer team, as the organization announced on Monday. This honor recognizes the country’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Santos is one of 33 NCAA Division I student-athletes named to the prestigious list, as well as one of two Missouri Valley Conference players, joining Keegan Maris of Valparaiso.
Santos extends the streak of three consecutive ISU seasons where a female football student-athlete received this honor after Kate Del Fava received CoSIDA Academic All-American® honors in 2019 and 2018. Bethany Brown (2010) and Tiffany DeClark (2003) complete the Redbirds which have been named CoSIDA Academic All-American®.
Santos, a native of Falls Church, Va., Is a three-time All-MVC selection, two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team winner and was recently named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in late spring 2021. season. The midfielder has started in all 12 games of the 2021 spring campaign, playing all but 30 minutes all season and scoring three goals for a total of six points. Santos maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated in Mathematics in May. She will be pursuing her Masters in Mathematics while completing her playing career this fall.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America® exam, student-athletes must be a beginner or a large reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and a GPA of at least 3.30 (on a scale of 4.0) in undergraduate and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached the second year in athletic and academic level at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
